Green light for Liverpool Street: Massive transformation of UK’s busiest station approved.
The City of Londonβs planning committee has officially greenlit the controversial revamp of Liverpool Street station. Despite the backlash, Network Railβs Β£1.2bn project is moving ahead, featuring a new 97-metre tower right above the concourse of the UK’s busiest transport hub. While critics are worried about the impact on the Grade II-listed building, Network Rail maintains that the design will protect the station’s “unique heritage.”

Network Rail has outlined a series of upgrades aimed at bolstering concourse capacity by 76%. The proposals focus on streamlining passenger flow and ensuring step-free access is available from street level right through to the platforms and London Underground lines. The revamped hub will also see an increase in the number of lifts and escalators to ease congestion.
What do you think? Is a shiny new tower a fair price to pay for a better commute, or should we be leaving our historic stations well alone?
